Sports Nutrition

Getting the right sports nutrition is important for everyone, but it is particularly crucial for growing kids who are involved in sports. Not only do their bodies need the proper nutrition to grow and develop properly, they need more to compensate for what they are burning during sports. This can be accomplished by assessing their current nutrition.

Instead of just giving your kids more food, take a look at what they are eating. Lots of healthy carbohydrates provide the energy required to exercise, so breads and pastas are good. A couple hours before your child practices or competes, a bagel or something of the sort is good nourishment.

Fresh fruits and vegetables can also be eaten a little while before playing sports, along with yogurt. In the hour before playing, fruit or vegetable juice is a good source of energy. Foods with a high fat content should be avoided for a few hours before exercising. These take a long time to break down and can lead to nausea and cramping.
